History of Osaka Prefectural Miyakojima Technical High School

  • May 1907 (Meiji 40)
    Established as Osaka Municipal Technical School near the north side of JR Osaka Station, with departments of Mechanical Engineering and Architecture.
    It is the oldest technical high school in Osaka.

  • April 1920 (Taisho 9)
    Renamed Osaka Municipal Industrial School. The Department of Electrical Engineering (currently the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering) was newly established.

  • April 1922 (Taisho 11)
    The Department of Civil Engineering (currently the Department of Urban Engineering) was established.

  • April 1926 (Taisho 15)
    The school relocated to its current site in Miyakojima Ward in December of the previous year and was renamed Osaka Municipal Miyakojima Technical School.

  • June 1929 (Showa 4)
    His Majesty the Emperor Showa honored the school with an imperial visit.

  • April 1943 (Showa 18)
    Miyakojima Higher Technical School was established on the same campus. It later became Miyakojima College of Technology, which subsequently evolved into the Faculty of Engineering at Osaka City University.

  • April 1948 (Showa 23)
    With the implementation of the new 6-3-3-4 educational system, the school was renamed Osaka Municipal Miyakojima Technical High School.

  • April 1954 (Showa 29)
    The Department of Industrial Chemistry (currently the Department of Science and Engineering) was established.

  • April 1959 (Showa 34)
    The Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering was established.

  • November 2007 (Heisei 19)
    The school held a ceremony to commemorate its 100th anniversary.

  • March 2013 (Heisei 25)
    Designated as a Super Science High School (SSH) by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

  • November 2017 (Heisei 29)
    The 110th anniversary commemoration ceremony was held.

  • April 2022 (Reiwa 4)
    Following the administrative transfer to Osaka Prefecture, the school was renamed Osaka Prefectural Miyakojima Technical High School.
